Every mobile-proxy provider advertises "millions of IPs." The label is technically true almost everywhere — and almost meaningless. What matters is what kind of IPs are in the pool, how they got there, and how granularly you can pick from them.

Under the hood, mobile-proxy pools break down into three very different things:

  • Scraped / opportunistic pools — IPs harvested from consumer VPN apps, SDKs bundled in free utilities, or worse, rented from botnets. Huge on paper, terrible in practice: reputations are burned by thousands of concurrent users, and there's no accountability.
  • Peer-to-peer residential + LTE — real user devices that opted in via SDK partnerships. Cleaner than scraped pools, but session control is limited and you're sharing IPs with anyone else who rents them at the same second.
  • Dedicated SIM-based mobile proxies — real 4G/5G SIM cards physically installed in provider-controlled devices, each one giving you a real carrier IP with full session control. This is what xProxy operates.

What Actually Sits Behind "the Pool"

A mobile-proxy IP pool sounds abstract, but it's physically simple. On our side there is:

  • A rack of provider-controlled devices (modems, embedded phones, or 4G/5G routers) in a data-friendly location within a country
  • Each device holds one or more physical SIM cards from local tier-1 carriers (e.g. Vodafone Spain, Viettel Vietnam, NTT Docomo Japan)
  • Each SIM registers with the carrier's normal consumer 4G/5G network and receives a real carrier IP from the same CGNAT range that ordinary phones sit behind
  • A control layer maps each SIM to an HTTP + SOCKS5 endpoint (gate.xproxy.io:PORT, or a country-specific gateway) with sticky-session and on-demand rotation

That means one SIM = one real carrier IP at any given moment. The IP looks — to Instagram, Amazon, Cloudflare, or any anti-bot vendor — indistinguishable from a real subscriber's phone in that country, on that carrier, in that city. Because it is a real subscriber's phone (specifically: ours, on a proper commercial data contract).
